A locking pushbutton switch is a device that combines the functionality of a regular pushbutton switch with additional safety features. When you press the button, it not only initiates an action, but remains pressed until you manually release it, thus preventing accidental activation. This feature makes it ideal for applications that require a constant safe ‘on’ state, such as industrial machinery, medical equipment, and even some home security systems.

When choosing a locking pushbutton switch, you should consider its rating (e.g. voltage and current), the number of poles and throws, as well as physical characteristics such as size and colour. You also need to ensure that it is compatible with existing circuits and meets any specific safety standards for the application.

Push Button Switch is a mechanical control component that achieves circuit on/off through vertical pressing action. Its core structure consists of a contact module (dynamic/static contacts, bridging spring), a driving mechanism (button cap, reset spring), a protective housing (IP level sealed design), and electrical interfaces (solder pins/pins/wiring terminals). The working principle is based on the compression of the spring by external force to make the contacts contact, and after release, the spring resets and disconnects the circuit. It has the characteristics of intuitive operation and fast response. Widely used in industrial control, consumer electronics, medical equipment, and automotive electronics fields, it is the core interactive interface for device start stop and function switching.

Operating force and triggering stroke

Operating force range: usually 0.5N~10N (± 15% accuracy), the light touch type (0.5N~2N) is suitable for high-frequency operation scenarios (such as electronic devices), and the heavy load type (5N~10N) can avoid accidental touch (such as industrial emergency stop buttons).

Trigger stroke: 1.0mm~6.0mm, short stroke (1.0mm~2.5mm) improves response speed (such as game controller buttons), long stroke (4.0mm~6.0mm) enhances operation confirmation (such as large mechanical control panels).

Example: A certain medical device uses a button switch with an operating force of 1.8N and a stroke of 2.2mm, which balances precise triggering and comfortable feel. After passing 100000 life tests, the operating force attenuation is less than 5%.

Electrical performance

Rated parameters: Current range of 0.1A~30A (@ 250V AC/DC), high-power models (such as 30A/125V AC) require silver nickel alloy contacts to reduce temperature rise (<85 ℃ @ full load).

Insulation and Voltage Endurance: Insulation resistance ≥ 500M Ω (@ 500V DC), voltage endurance strength up to AC2000V/1 minute (between base and contact), meeting the high voltage isolation requirements of industrial equipment.

Contact reliability: Initial contact resistance ≤ 30m Ω, dynamic contact resistance fluctuation<15m Ω (after 100000 cycles), ensuring signal transmission stability.

Mechanical lifespan and reliability

Lifespan level: From 50000 cycles (consumer grade) to 5 million cycles (industrial grade), high-end models extend their lifespan through gold-plated contacts and self-cleaning structural design.

Anti impact and vibration: Tested according to MIL-STD-202G standard, the anti impact capability reaches 100G (6ms half sine wave), the anti vibration performance is 10-500Hz, 3G acceleration, suitable for harsh environments.

Example: After passing 1 million life tests, the thickness of the contact oxide layer of a car's central control button is less than 0.1 μ m, and the change rate of contact resistance is less than 8%.

Environmental adaptability

Temperature range: The working temperature covers -40 ℃~+125 ℃ (some models support -55 ℃~+150 ℃), and the spring elasticity attenuation rate at low temperatures is less than 5%.

Protection level: From IP40 (dustproof but not waterproof) to IP69K (high-pressure water flushing), medical grade products need to pass ISO 10993-5 biocompatibility testing to ensure non-toxic precipitation.

Sealing design: Adopting double O-ring and ultrasonic welding technology, achieving IP67 protection level, and no corrosion on the appearance after salt spray testing (5% NaCl, 48h).

Size and installation flexibility

Package size: Under the trend of miniaturization, the size of surface mount buttons can reach 4mm × 4mm × 2.5mm, and the plug-in type covers a diameter of 6mm~30mm, supporting panel installation (with nuts) or PCB insertion.

Function extension: Supports LED integrated with light, self-locking/non self-locking, dual color indicator and other designs. LED lifespan ≥ 50000 hours, color temperature range 2700K~6500K.

Scenario: PLC input module, CNC machine operation panel, robot emergency stop button.

Requirements: High protection level (IP65+), long lifespan (≥ 1 million cycles), and oil pollution resistance.

Example: A certain automated production line adopts IP67 protection buttons, which have passed UL508 certification and can operate stably in cutting fluid splashing environments.

Scenario: Smartphone power button, smart speaker function button, microwave oven start button.
