2.54mm Pitch IC Type Dip Switches' Product Descrition
In the realm of electronics and programming, the Dip Switch is a simple yet versatile device that has played a significant role in controlling and testing various electronic circuits. While it may seem like a humble component, the Dip Switch's advantages cannot be overstated, especially in the world of technology where every bit of efficiency and accessibility counts.
SMD Type DIP Switches' Product Structure and material
IC-type dip switches usually consist of a row of small switches, each of which can be in two different states, either on (ON) or off (OFF). These switches are tightly arranged and are packaged in the form of integrated circuits (ICs), allowing them
to be easily mounted on electronic devices.
Material of each part of IC type dip switch:
Cover material: PPS UL 94 VO
Base material: PPS UL 94 VO
Handle material: PA46UL 94 VO
Shrapnel material: gold-plated copper
Terminals: Gold Plated Brass
Sealing tape: Polyimide KAPTON
DIP Switches' Operating Principle
1. Switch state: Each toggle actually corresponds to a switch, toggling to the ON terminal means that the circuit switch is on, toggling to the OFF terminal means that the circuit switch is off. This binary state selection
allows the dipswitch to encode many different combinations.
2. Binary coding: The operating principle of the dip switches is based on binary coding. The state of each switch (ON or OFF) can be thought of as a binary bit, so an n-bit dipswitch can represent 2^n different
combinations of states. For example, a 4-bit dipswitch can represent 16 different states from 0000 to 1111.
3. Circuit connection: By changing the position of each switch, different circuit connections or signal routing can be realized. When a switch is ON, its corresponding circuit path is energized; when the switch is OFF,
the circuit path is disconnected. This change in circuit connections allows the dipswitch to control many different circuit functions.
Black DIP Switches' Drawing
Here is the 12 Positions' DIP Switches' drawing and circuit diagram
Black Dip Switches are manually adjustable switches that typically come in standard dual in-line packaging. DIP switches are generally designed on printed circuit boards and used in conjunction with other electronic components. They are mainly used to adjust the characteristics of electronic devices and can be seen as a substitute for jumper groups. Their main advantage is that the switch state is easy to switch and there are no short-circuit devices that may be lost or detached. DIP switches began to be used in 1974 and were adopted by ATARI's Flipper game in 1977. DIP switches with sliding bars were patented in the United States in 1976.
characteristic
mechanical properties
Operating force: The general operating force of a switch is 800g max, which indicates the maximum force required to operate the switch, ensuring the stability and reliability of the switch during operation.
Push button stroke: 2.00mm. The setting of the push button stroke allows the switch to have a clear displacement range during operation, making it easy for users to accurately switch states.
Operating temperature: -20 ℃~+70 ℃, this temperature range ensures that the switch can work normally under common environmental temperatures, adapting to the needs of different environments.
Storage temperature: -40 ℃~+85 ℃. The wide storage temperature range ensures that the switch will not be damaged due to temperature changes during storage, extending the service life of the switch.
Electrical characteristics
Electrical lifespan: Each switch is tested under a voltage of 24VDC and a current of 25mA, and can be turned back and forth 2000 times. This reflects the durability of the switch under normal usage conditions and can meet the long-term needs of the equipment.
The rated current for infrequent switching of the switch is 100mA, with a withstand voltage of 50VDC. This parameter indicates the maximum current and voltage that the switch can withstand without frequent switching, ensuring the safety of the equipment in normal working conditions.
The rated current that the switch frequently switches: 25mA, withstand voltage 24VDC. For switches that frequently need to switch states, this parameter setting ensures their stability and reliability during frequent operation.
Contact impedance: The initial maximum value is 50m Ω, and the maximum value after testing is 100m Ω. The size of the contact impedance directly affects the conductivity of the switch. A lower contact impedance can reduce energy loss and improve the efficiency of the circuit.
Insulation impedance: minimum 100M Ω, 500VDC. High insulation impedance can effectively prevent current leakage and ensure the safety of equipment and operators.
Voltage resistance strength: 500VAC/1 minute. This parameter reflects the switch's ability to withstand high voltage environments, ensuring that the equipment will not be damaged under abnormal voltage conditions.
Inter electrode capacitance: maximum 5pF. The size of the inter electrode capacitance can affect the performance of the switch in high-frequency circuits. A smaller inter electrode capacitance can reduce signal interference and improve circuit stability.
Circuit: Single contact single selection, this circuit design is simple and reliable, and can meet most basic switch control needs.
Application scenarios
In the field of electronic devices
Computer motherboard: On a computer motherboard, DIP switches are typically used to set BIOS configuration and CMOS settings. For example, GIGABYTE is a motherboard manufacturer that uses an 8-bit DIP switch in its H370M DS3H motherboard to set functions such as CMOS clear and power button. The user manual of this motherboard provides detailed DIP switch diagrams and usage instructions to help users correctly set its functions. Due to its greater stability and security than software settings, and the ability to be shared between different computer systems, DIP switches have been widely used in the field of computer motherboards.
Audio and video devices: can be used to adjust device parameters such as volume, image quality, etc., to meet users' personalized settings needs for the device.
Security system: used to set parameters of security equipment, such as alarm sensitivity, monitoring range, etc., to improve the performance and reliability of the security system.
communication field
Telephone switches and network equipment: DIP switches can be used to configure network addresses, ports, and other settings. For example, CISCO is a well-known network equipment manufacturer that widely uses DIP switches in its products. In its 2500 series router, a 16 bit DIP switch is used to set various parameters such as communication ports, data transfer rates, and security settings. With the global telephone exchange market expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 5% from 2019 to 2023, the application of DIP switches in the communication field will continue to grow.
Wireless communication equipment: can be used to set the frequency, channel, and other parameters of the receiver to ensure the stability and reliability of wireless communication.
Automotive field
Automotive electronic system: DIP switches can be used to set functions such as door locking, window opening, and seat adjustment. For example, Hyundai Motor Company has used DIP switches in multiple models to configure different in car functions. In its 2020 Elantra GT model, a 10 position DIP switch is used to set door locks, seat adjustments, and other interior settings. With the global automotive electronics market expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of approximately 6% from 2019 to 2023, the application of DIP switches in the automotive industry will continue to expand.
Car audio system: used to adjust settings such as volume, tone, and equalizer to enhance the audio experience of the car.
Other areas
Industrial control: In some industrial control equipment, DIP switches can be used to select different operating modes or control logic to meet different production needs.
Remote control devices: such as remote controllers for ceiling fans and lighting fixtures, which have DIP switches that can set different RF frequencies for different transmitters/receivers. Therefore, remote controllers can be used in different rooms within the same room without unexpected interference.
X10 Smart Home Devices: Rotary switches (a special DIP switch) are often used to set home, room, or device numbers, achieving centralized management and control of smart home devices.
